Dental dam technique

Technology at the cutting edge

In 1864 already the dental dam technique was introduced in dentistry by the New York dentist Sandford Christie Brown. An elastic plastic or rubber blanket is used to isolate the treated teeth from the oral cavity.

Benefits:

  • keeps the treated area dry and free of blood
  • prevents the possibility of any materials falling into your mouth or being ingested during treatment
  • prevents the area from being exposed to bacteria

When having a composite filling or a root canal treatment a dental dam, also called clamping rubber, is a requirement for a consistent success and for highest quality.

Since there are only benefits for dentist and patients there are hardly any treatments without a dental dam in our dental office. Because of a dental dam the patient doesn’t have the feeling of “work going on” in his mouth.
